Today's CDS was quite uneventful; we did not go out cleaning as usual. As expected most of us were thrilled. Not that we don't enjoy going out to clean but getting a break after so many weeks of cleaning was a huge relief.

We started our meeting by 9a.m and it had only 

lasted about fifteen minutes before our able L.I decided to grace our gathering with his presence. He started out by promising not to take too much of our time but we definitely knew better. He ended up speaking to us for about two and half hours and every minute was worth it.

By the time he left us to continue the meeting, most of us felt we had had enough for the day and Piriye (our able PRESIDO) had no other choice but to bring the meeting to a close.

We got our cards signed and marched to our respective homes.

 It was definitely a stress-free CDS day.

OPERATION TINUBU SQUARE

It’s another CDS Thursday in Lagos Island local government as a youth corper, this time, we went to Tinubu square in Oluwole to assist the community by keeping it clean. Oluwole is an area in Lagos where there are a lot of evil geniuses, who can 'clone' you according to someone i dare not mention the name. lol

Back to our day, the majority of us arrived at the LG secretariat, because we didn't know how to get to Tinubu square and also because our tools are kept at the LG secretariat. Getting to Tinubu square was no problem, we started cleaning little over 9:00 am. Everyone contributed to the best of our ability. The whole area took a shine to us as people were watching us (even LAWMA staffs) and you know Nigerians, they had to say something, whether it be the bus driver shouting "asyouwere" repeatedly or the ordinary passerby with the cliche comment "corper shun". Some were amazed, with a particular curious passerby who had to stop to ask who sent us, whether it was the local government because he had never seen corpers clean their host community. That moment would have motivated anyone. We finished up, almost an hour after our start. 

Then the struggle to get back to the LG secretariat to get our cards signed began. The plan was to charter a bus back to the secretariat, this proved fruitless, so we had to trek a long distance, till we came to a halt and realised the person leading us didn't know the way. We asked our ever helpful Lagosians for directions and they pointed us in the right direction. After walking for so long, I guess we all got tired and got into different keke maruwa. On getting to the secretariat, we learnt a great lesson ‘Always negotiate with the keke maruwa driver before getting into the keke’, as an argument ensued between our VP and the keke maruwa driver, thank God it didn't get physical because that keke guy didn't stand a chance against our ever-active VP...hahaha (joking) 

We got to the LG secretariat all in one piece, had a little meeting welcoming and introducing the new 4 new members to the group,We told them what the sanitation and beautification CDS was all about. They all seemed satisfied and right at home. After our group meeting, we all went to wish our LGI, Mr. Charles a happy birthday in arears after which we had a meeting with him.

He was grateful; he prayed, advised and motivated us (a little whining, but we'll take it), urging us to pick up any relevant skill or professional certifications, he dismissed us, got our cards and said our goodbyes.
